How to Make Scrolling Credits With Boris RED

Scrolling credits are commonly referred to as a credit roll. A credit roll is an animation effect for text which allows it to move from one side of the screen to the next. "Boris RED" is an effects application used for creating titles and credits. These titles and credits can be integrated with video files edited with popular software programs such as Adobe Premiere and After Effects, and Apple Final Cut Pro.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Boris RED, select "File" and "Open." Select the file you want to add the credit to in the browser window. The file will open on the timeline.

    • 2

Select the "CTRL+SHIFT+T" keys to create a new text track in the Boris RED timeline.

    • 3

Select the "Text Wrap" tab. Then choose "Wrap" from the "Text Wrap" menu.

    • 4

Select the "T" tab, then click the "Center Justification" button.

    • 5

Select the "Font" tab and choose the font type and size in the corresponding menus.

    • 6

Type the title of the credit roll (e.g., Cast of Characters). Then press the "Enter" key two times.

    • 7

Click on "Right Justification" and move the "Guide" icon from the left corner to the right, just past the center of the guide where you want the second column to be. If you only want one column of credits, skip this step.

    • 8

      Click "Center Justification" again.

    • 9

Press the "Tab" key and type the first character name, or other credit. Press the "Tab" key again to gain access to the right column and enter the actor name, or other credit. If only using one column, the tab will move the cursor to the next row.

    • 10

Press the "Tab" key again and enter additional rows of credits. Close the text window when done adding credits.

    • 11

Select the text track on the Boris Red timeline. Press "CTRL+SHIFT+J" keys to create a new title container. The text will appear in the composite window, and the Controls menu will open.

    • 12

Select the "Animation" tab. Choose "Roll," or another movement option from the Animation Style menu. Press the "Space Bar" to play back the credit roll.

    • 13

      Click "File" and "Save."

Tips & Warnings

  • If the text is white, click the "Title Options" button at the bottom of the Composite window and deselect "Checkerboard" so you can see the text against the background.
