How to Use Deceptisol in "Final Fantasy XIII"

Press the right buttons, and you'll activate a Deceptisol shroud for preemptive strikes.

Deceptisol isn’t used in the same way as most items in Final Fantasy XIII. It is a “shroud” item, and this means that it is used right before a battle. Activate Deceptisol before initiating a battle to ensure that your team is awarded a preemptive strike, allowing you to attack from behind before the enemy knows you're there. You cannot equip this item as a weapon, and you can’t consume it during an active battle. Few items behave this way in the game, so you might not know how to use all that Deceptisol you acquired from treasure chests and battle rewards.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the “Left Bumper” or “LB” button on your controller before instigating a battle. This button is located just above the left trigger, and the command works on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers. (see References 1) The “Shrouds” menu appears on your screen once the button is pressed. If you wait until after the battle starts, it won’t work.

    • 2

Use the left stick or directional pad to select Deceptisol with your PS3 or Xbox 360 controller.

    • 3

Press the “Circle” button on the PS3 controller, or press the “B” button if you're playing the game on the Xbox 360. The Decepitsol is now activated, and your players are given the first strike in battle.

    • 4

Walk into an enemy to initiate a battle. The Deciptisol shroud is used and you may gain a preemptive strike.

Tips & Warnings

  • Certain higher level enemies are immune to preemptive strikes. Deceptisol is most effective earlier in the game while fighting lower level monsters.
