How to Curl a Lace Front

Lace-front wigs have a more natural look than standard wigs. Commonly worn by African-American women, lace-front wigs are attached to the hairline using a special liquid adhesive. The hairline is not visible and the scalp is a natural color, which makes it look like your real hair. The majority of lace-front wigs are made of natural hair but synthetic ones are also available. You should avoid heat styling a synthetic lace front wig, but feel free to curl a lace-front just as you would your natural hair. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Curling Iron

    • 1

Turn a medium-barrel curling iron on medium to high heat. Thicker hair types tend to need more heat to get a good curl.

    • 2

Wrap a 2-inch section of hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Wrap it around the barrel and hold it there for 15 seconds. Unwrap the hair and mist it with hairspray. Continue until you have curled as much of the hair as you desire.

    • 3

Put your hand on the crown of your head. Use your fingers to gently tousle the curls. While the wig is secure, pulling it can cause it to come loose.

    Hot rollers

    • 4

Heat up hot rollers on medium to high heat. Start at the front of the lace front and wrap a 2-inch section of hair around a hot roller.

    • 5

Continue rolling the curler up to 1 inch before the scalp. Clip the hair into place. Let the curlers sit in the hair for 15 minutes. Unroll the hot rollers gently from your hair.

    • 6

Spray the hair with medium-hold hairspray. Once it dries, run your fingers gently through the curls. Spritz it with shine serum.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid heat styling as much as possible to keep the wig in optimal condition.
