How to Make Hair Tufts
A tuft is a patch of hair which grows in a different direction or pattern than the rest. Temporary tufts can form at night when hair is pressed against a pillow or during a day of being kept under a hat. Although tufts of hair aren't a desired part of a hairstyle, with the right tools, they can also be artificially created for fun or as part of a costume. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Comb
- Spray bottle with water
- Hair dryer
- Hair gel (firm hold)
- Hair spray

Style the rest of your hair as desired and create the tuft last.

Separate a section of hair about 2 or more inches in width. Separate multiple tufts by another 2 inches to allow them to stand alone.

Dampen the section of hair by misting it with a spray of water.

Hold up the tuft of hair with a comb and use a blow dryer to dry it in place, from the roots to the tip.

Rub a pinch of firm-hold hair gel between the thumb and forefinger and apply it to the roots of the tufted area. Keep the tuft held up until the gel dries.

Squirt the tuft with hair spray to secure it in place.

Tips & Warnings
Do not apply gel to the entire tuft as the gel will weigh down the hair.
