How to Make a Cowboy Hat With Beer Cans
A beer can cap is an item of headwear that holds your beer for you as you suck it through a straw. This cap leaves your hands free to do other things, like crack open another can when your current supply dries up. But instead of building around a simple cap, add a touch of the South to your beer guzzling experience by making a beer can cowboy hat. Not only is the hat easy to make, you are sure to have fun emptying the beer cans needed for the project.

1
Cut out two pieces of duct tape, both 6 inches in length.
-
2
Stick one strip of duct tape to the bottom of the other, lengthwise. Half of the tape should be hanging over the edge lengthwise and the other half should be attached to the other duct tape. Fold the hanging end over the second piece of duct tape.
-
-
3
You will end up with one smooth side and one half smooth, half sticky side.
-
4
Add another strip of 6-inch duct tape to the sticky area of the previous strip. Again, half of the tape will hang over the edge. Repeat this pattern until your duct tape sheet measures 6 inches by roughly 12 inches.
-
5
Fold the hanging piece of duct tape over the piece opposite it to complete the sheet. The sheet should be completely smooth on both sides.
-
6
Cut the longer side down to 8 3/4 inches using scissors. Trim the edges of the other side to keep them straight.
-
7
Add another 6 inch piece of duct tape to one of the 6 inch sides of the sheet. Again, half of this should hang over the edge.
-
8
Roll the sheet into a cylinder and use the one visible sticky side of duct table to hold the cylinder together.
-
9
Push a can through the cylinder. It should fit, but you will need to add some more duct tape if it doesn’t. Cut the cylinder in half.
-
10
Cut a strip of duct tape measuring 5 inches in length. Attach this strip to one of the cylinders. Stick the ends to the side of the cylinder so that the middle covers most of the opening in the cylinder.
-
11
Stick the cylinder to one side of the hat with duct tape.
-
12
Repeat the previous two steps for the second cylinder, positioning it on the opposite side of the hat’s crown.
-
13
Put an empty can into both can holders in your hat.
-
14
Place one end of some plastic tubing inside one of the can so it reaches the bottom.
-
15
Feed the other end of the tubing around the back of the crown and across to the other side, sticking it down at the back with a piece of duct tape. Tuck the tube under the can holder on this side of the hat.
-
16
Drill a hole in your hat’s rim just in front of the can holder and feed the tube through the hole. Cut the tube to a length where it is long enough for you to hold it in your mouth without stretching.
-
17
Repeat the previous two steps for the second piece of tubing, using the other can.
-
18
Put on your hat and replace the empty cans with two full ones.
