Instructions

    • 1

Draw an outline of the plushie on felt using a thin-tip permanent marker. Draw just the head or the full body, depending on your preferences. Cut the outline out of the felt and duplicate by placing on the remaining felt piece, tracing and cutting out this identical piece.

    • 2

Thread the yarn through a wide needle and add a face, including eyes, nose and mouth, to one of the felt pieces. Make small stitches to curve and manipulate the yarn in desired shapes for facial parts. Use different colors of yarn for different facial parts, if preferred. Make your first stitch for each facial part by poking the needle through the felt from the back. Likewise, knot the last stitch in the back. This way, the yarn knots will not be visible on the face.

    • 3

Place the embellished felt piece on top of the second felt piece. Align the edges. Sew the pieces together, using the yarn and needle. Use yarn the same color as felt to hide stitches. Leave a tiny opening before fully stitching the two pieces together. Do not knot the yarn yet; simply let the yarn and needle dangle.

    • 4

Stuff the plushie by poking polyester fill inside the stitched object. Only add enough fill to give the object a bit of dimension. If you over-stuff, you will break stitches. Finish knitting the plushie together by closing the opening.

    • 5

Punch a hole through the felt along the edge of the plushie, where there is not much fiber fill. For instance, punch a hole at the tip of an ear or limb. Leave at least 1/4 inch between the hole and edge of the felt.

    • 6

Cut a piece of yarn approximately 4 inches long. Fold the yarn in half. Thread the folded end through the hole in the felt, then tuck the two loose ends through the folded end and pull on these two ends to tighten the folded end around the felt. Tie the two loose ends into a very tight, secure knot. Put the knot through the opening of a small lanyard hook and then attach the lanyard hook to a key ring.
