Even young children can learn the knots used in making friendship bracelets.

A friendship bracelet is the quintessential summer craft for young girls and campers. The bracelets are not difficult to make and are used to symbolize the friendship between children and teens. The bracelets are not meant to be taken off, and are usually worn until they break. Because of this, a firm knot is used to hold the bracelets on the wrist. However, you can modify the bracelet fastening if you want to be able to remove the bracelet.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the floss strands into two groups. Separate each group of strings into three sections.

    • 2

Braid the two side sections until they are each about 4 to 5 inches long.

    • 3

Loop the ends of the string around the end of the braid and pull the loose end through. This will make a knot at the end of the braid. Trim the strings at the base of the braid to about ½ an inch.

    • 4

Place the bracelet around your wrist. Pull one braid through the loop at the other side of the bracelet. Tie the two braided sections together in a square knot by twisting the right side over the left side, then the left side over the right side. This will make a secure knot that will not come off. If you want the bracelet to be removable, then tie the two ends together in a bow.
