Hanes Ultimate Cotton sweatshirts come in both crew neck and hoody styles in a variety of basic, solid colors. Ultimate cotton is a cotton-polyester blend that features 90 percent soft, breathable cotton and 10 percent polyester fleece. Hems are relaxed and cuffs are ribbed and stretched. Hoody styles are both pullover and zip-up and feature jersey-lined hoods, wide pockets and double-stitching around the waist and armholes. Instructions

    • 1

Decide how you want to change the look of your ultimate cotton sweatshirt. Consider using iron-on letters from your local fabric or craft store to spell out your name, fraternity, club, the name of your favorite band or sports team, or to create your own message.

    • 2

Select a base color for your sweatshirt. Decide on a message. Purchase letters in a contrasting color to the sweatshirt so that your message will be easy to read.

    • 3

Measure the distance you have to work with, vertically and horizontally across either the front, back or both sides of the sweatshirt. Consider larger letters for a short message or acronym and smaller letters for a phrase or sentence.

    • 4

Set the iron-on letters on top of the sweatshirt. Play with the design, laying the letters out in both straight and curved lines until you have a look that pleases you. Create a guideline for the type of line you’ve chosen with masking tape to ensure correct placement of the letters.

    • 5

Pre-heat an iron. Set the three farthest-left letters, adhesive-side down on the sweatshirt where you want them to be permanently placed. Press the heated iron on top of the letters for 15 seconds. Repeat until all remaining letters are attached to the sweatshirt.

    • 6

Gently turn the sweatshirt inside out. Set the hot iron over the letters, three at a time, for 15 seconds until you’ve pressed all letters into the sweatshirt. Let the sweatshirt cool for 20 minutes. Remove paper backing from the inside of the sweatshirt and wear it out.
