How to Decorate a Bedroom With Greek Decor

Decorate your bedroom with Greek-looking artifacts for a Mediterranean motif.

Greek decor is primarily based on natural hues found in the sea, sky and sand found in and around the Mediterranean Sea. Known for its bold hues and textured textiles, this style evokes a sense of calmness and simplicity. Depending on your taste, you can use Greek decor to make your bedroom look traditional and cozy or sleek and contemporary. Choose items that represent this ancient culture to add history and beauty to your bedroom.

Instructions

1. Choose a Greek-themed color scheme. Ceylon blue, dark turquoise, white, ivory and rusty ochre work well with this Mediterranean style. Use at least one blue hue in your color palette to suggest the color of the sea, which is used often in traditional Greek decor.

2. Select simple, modern furniture. Find a bed that has a low frame and short headboard. Pair simple furniture with elaborate accessories and patterns to create interest in the room.

3. Add patterns and textured accents through the use of throw pillows, blankets and table or wall decor. The Greek "key" motif, which features a squared geometric pattern, works well in fabrics and tile designs. Choose several pieces that feature the Greek key and use it throughout the bedroom.

4. Create a classic look by using white bedding with single sky-blue painted wall. The blue will encourage a relaxed ambiance, while the white suggests purity and cleanliness. Stimulate visual interest by incorporating bedding with a faint geometric pattern.

5. Decorate the room with vases and vessels depicting Greek historical narratives or fictional imagery. Vases are typically created with black and terracotta colors. Place a collection of vases on top of a dresser or arrange them on a set of floating bookshelves in your room.

6. Incorporate rustic wooden features in your bedroom. Wooden floors, shutters or an antique dresser will contribute to this theme. Use rough-hewn picture frames or carved figurines to give your bedroom a rustic Greek look.

• Keep your color palette limited to no more than three colors. Too many colors combined with bold patterns and textures can detract from the simplicity of the Greek style.
