How to Make a Request to Attend an Event

It doesn't matter how much work you put into an event if you don't invite people to attend. Technology offers two common ways to request people's presence at your event. The first is the traditional invitation letter. This approach is best for a business invite and people who dislike electronic invites. The second is to create an event on Facebook and invite your friends. This approach works well for informal events and friends who prefer the electronic invite over a personal letter. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Formal Invite

    • 1

Address the letter and introduce the event with language that reflects the type of event. A business invitation uses formal titles and last names and introduces the business. A personal invitation uses first names and describes the personal purpose of the event, such as a wedding or birthday party.

    • 2

Describe the who, where, when and why in as few words as possible. Each should take up one or two sentences, compiling one or two paragraphs.

    • 3

Ask for an RSVP and the final date to RSVP. Provide a phone number or other form of contact, such as return address.

    • 4

Reiterate that you'd like the person at the event, and say something similar to, “Hope to see you there.” Write “Sincerely” and sign your name. Print your name underneath your signature.

    Facebook Invite

    • 5

Click in the search box on the right side of the page, under “Upcoming Events.” Type the name of your event and click “Add details.”

    • 6

Specify that date and start time. Click “Add end time” if your event has one. Type the location of the event. Click “Add street address” to attach more specific details. Type any miscellaneous information in the “More Info?” box.

    • 7

Select “Add Event Photo” on the left side of the page. Choose a file from your hard drive.

    • 8

Click “Select Guests” and check the box next to any friend you want to invite. Press “Save and Close,” then check or uncheck the appropriate boxes to make the event public and show the guest list on the event page.

    • 9

Invite people to the event later by visiting the event's page. Click “Invite people to come” from under the event's picture on the left. Choose the “Guest's List” tab and type the name of the friend you want to invite.
