How to Add a Scanner to CS3

Adobe Photoshop CS3 uses TWAIN and Windows Image Acquisition, or WIA, to obtain image data from a computer scanner. To add a scanner to CS3, you must first install the device to Windows. After the scanner has been installed to the computer, it shows up in the Import menu in Photoshop CS3. You can then use TWAIN or WIA to scan the image into the graphics editor.

Instructions

    • 1

Route the USB cable from the computer to the scanner or connect a network cable to the scanning device.

    • 2

Plug the scanner into a power outlet. Turn the scanner on. Log in to Windows as an administrator.

    • 3

Insert the scanner software into the disc drive to install the scanner to the computer and add the scanner to the list of import devices in Adobe Photoshop CS3. If you're using a network scanner that's already been installed to a host computer, click "Start," then click "Network." Right-click the scanner, then click "Install."

    • 4

Open Adobe Photoshop CS3. Click "File." Point to "Import." Select "WIA Support" or choose your scanning device from the list to use the scanner.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you select WIA Support, you'll need to select the scanner from a list after selecting a folder destination to save the file to.
