How to Lock a DirecTV Box
You can restrict, or lock, your DirecTV receiver box based on a television show's rating or by how long the television has been on. You can also restrict the receiver to displaying certain channels only. If you lock your DirecTV receiver with an empty "Family" channels list, you will not be able to view any programs on your television.

Press the "MENU" key on your DirecTV remote. Navigate through the menu using the up and down arrow keys until you highlight "Lock & Limits" from the Main Menu. Press the "SELECT" key to select "Lock & Limits."

Enter the "Lock" menu from the list by navigating through the "Lock & Limits" menu using the up and down arrow keys as you did with the main menu. Press the "SELECT" key to enter the "Lock" function.

Enter a password consisting of four digits into the spaces provided and then press "OK."

Type the same code again when prompted and press "OK" again. The DirecTV receiver will now be locked.

Tips & Warnings
To unlock the system, you must enter the four-digit password you entered when you locked the receiver box. If you forget your password, you will need to call DirecTV's customer service department.
