Natural stone is a popular source of tiling material.

Adding tile to a wall can dramatically transform the entire appearance of a room. One of the primary beginning tasks in the process of a tiling project is measuring the length of the wall onto which the tile will be installed. The term "running feet" refers to the length of an object. Another term for running feet is "linear feet." Determine the running feet of walls by performing simple measurements.

Step 2

Extend the tape measure to the other edge of the wall.

Step 3

Observe the length of the tape measure from one edge of the wall to the other. This is the running feet of the wall.

Step 4

Multiply the running feet of the wall times the width of the wall if you need to determine the area. For example, a wall that has a running feet measurement of 12 feet and a width of 8 feet has an area of 96 square feet. This calculation helps you to estimate the amount of tiles you will need for the job.
