How to Change Frigidaire Stove Igniters

How to Change Frigidaire Stove Igniters thumbnail
If your burner won't light, it could need a new igniter.

Each burner on your Frigidaire gas range has its own igniter, which is located very close to the burner. The igniter lights the gas emitted by the burner when it is turned on. The burner receives an electric current from the spark module, which causes it to emit several sparks per second. If one igniter does not properly function while the others produce sparks as normal, remove the non-functioning igniter and install a new one. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the range from the wall outlet, or turn off the breaker in your electric panel.

    • 2

Remove the grates and caps from each burner.

    • 3

Remove the screws securing the burner bases to the stovetop, then remove the burner bases.

    • 4

Insert a putty knife below the main top on the front of the left and right sides to disengage the spring clips. Lift the main top.

    • 5

Remove the bolt that secures the burner orifice containing the faulty igniter to the gas valve.

    • 6

Remove the screw securing the ignitor to the burner orifice, then remove the igniter.

    • 7

Pull the wire connector off the igniter terminal, then discard the ignitor.

    • 8

Connect the wire igniter terminal. If the wire connector doesn't fit, replace the stove's wire connector. To replace, snip off the old connector using wire cutters. Remove 1/4 inch off insulation from the wire using wire strippers, then insert the wire into the end of the new connector. Crimp the connector to secure the wire in place.

    • 9

Secure the new igniter in the orifice, then reinstall the orifice.

    • 10

Lower the main top and press it down to engage the spring clips.

    • 11

Replace the burner bases, caps and grills.

    • 12

      Restore power to the range.
