How to Kindly Say No to a Job Position
When seeking a job, you often wait eagerly for the presentation of a position offer. While in many cases you will eagerly accept an offer when it does arrive, in some cases you may have to present a negative response to an offer. Whatever your reason for turning down a job for which you received an offer, your turn down doesn't have to be rude. Instead of hurting your relationship with the company offering you the position, be as polite as possible when turning down the position.

1
Give as much notice as you can. If you know that you aren't going to accept the job, don't wait several days before letting the offering company know. Instead, tell them immediately so they can offer the position to another candidate.
-
2
Thank them for selecting you. Start politely, saying thanks for the offer and telling them how much you appreciate their selecting you as a potential employee.

3
Explain the reason for your choice. While you don't necessarily have to give a reason for turning down the offer, doing so is polite, as it may seem to the hiring committee that they wasted their time interviewing you. Don't be overly specific, but instead give a blanket statement as to why you didn't accept the job.

Tell them that you hope to have the opportunity to work for them in the future. Particularly if you are turning down an offer from a large company in your industry, maintaining a healthy relationship is a must. By telling them that you still revere the company and view it as a strong leader in the industry, you can improve your chances of ultimately working for the company should your circumstances change.

Follow up with a thank you letter. Compose a short letter and address it to the individual who made you the offer, thanking them once more for the offer and for taking the time to meet with you. With this extra step, you can set yourself apart from the rest and establish yourself as a highly conscientious job candidate.
