How to Make Funky Elf Sweater Dresses

Dressing like one of Santa's elves doesn't have to be tacky.

Elf costumes are ones you can wear twice a year -- on Halloween and during the Christmas holidays. If you aren't interested in the typical elf costume, you can create one of your own out of any sweater dress; make it as funky and stylish as you want. You still look like an elf and portray the holiday spirit; you are just adding a bit of your own personal style to the outfit. Impersonating an elf with a funky sweater dress is a more stylish option that celebrating your holiday spirit by wearing just a boring Christmas sweater.

Instructions

1. Pick a long-sleeved sweater dress out of your closet, borrow one from a friend or go shopping. For optimal Christmas spirit choose a red, white or green sweater dress.

2. Pair your sweater dress with tights and a matching belt in a different color than the dress. For example, if your sweater dress is red, pick a wide green belt and green tights. Put the belt around your dress at the smallest part of your waist.

3. Skip the elf shoes and pair your funky sweater-dress elf outfit with a pair of ankle boots or high heels. If you can find a pair of green or red heels, it would add an additional holiday touch to the outfit. Add optimum funk to your outfit by not matching your shoes to your tights. For example, if you go with green tights, try for red shoes.

4. Add pizazz to your elf dress with jewelry. Dangling earrings, bangle bracelets or a plethora of long necklaces in different colors, materials and lengths make your outfit appear funkier.

5. Wear a hat, but not an elf hat. Wear a beret or a knit cap to top off your funky elf sweater-dress look.
