How to Install a Hydrotech RO

A Hydrotech RO system is an advanced reverse osmosis water filtration system designed for installation under a sink. The most common installation location is under the sink, but the RO system can be installed anywhere that is no more than 15 feet from the cold water supply. The holding tank can be up to 15 feet from the RO faucet included with the system. The unit must be protected from freezing and have plenty of room to allow for maintenance. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Tapping the Cold Water

    • 1

Turn off the cold water supply pipe to the faucet under the sink. Place the back plate from the saddle-tapping valve behind the cold water pipe. If your pipe is 3/8 inch in diameter, use the small radius on the back plate and if your pipe is 1/2 inch in diameter, use the larger radius. Hold the back plate in place.

    • 2

Place the saddle over the back plate and around the cold water pipe. The valve end of the saddle must be on the opposite side from the back plate.

    • 3

Tighten the screw to hold the saddle and back plate securely in place. Place the RO module where you want it and turn the valve so it is pointed toward the feed port. Tighten the screw completely, but do not crush the water line.

    • 4

Connect the module to the valve on the saddle with compression fittings. To assemble the compression fitting, slide the nut and then the sleeve into the fitting. Place the fitting into one end of the plastic tubing. Place the tubing into the valve body and tighten the compression fitting onto the valve body.

    • 5

Turn the valve handle clockwise until you pierce the cold water line. Turn on the cold water supply and check for leaks. Install the other end of the tubing into the RO module feed port.

    Tap the Drain Line

    • 6

Choose a location to connect your RO system into your kitchen sink drain. This location should not be on a drain that has a garbage disposal already installed on it. You can connect to drain pipe that is either vertical or horizontal. Horizontal installations should be as close to the top of the pipe as possible, while vertical installations should be on a straight length of pipe.

    • 7

Place the drain outlet saddle on the pipe at the location you chose. You will need to be able to drill through the guide hole, so keep this in mind.

    • 8

Tighten the bolts on both sides of the saddle evenly. Use a drill with a 3/8- or 7/16-inch drill bit and drill through the drain pipe using the outlet in the saddle as a guide. Clean out any drill filings.

    Install the Faucet

    • 9

Select a location for the faucet that is convenient above the sink and has open space below the sink. Drill a 3/8-inch hole in the sink to allow for installation. Use a drill with a porcelain drill set when drilling through porcelain or tile sinks or a metal drill bit for stainless steel sinks.

    • 10

Place the faucet body and base washers into the hole in the sink from above. Install the washer, spacer and nut onto the bottom of the faucet, holding it in place.

    • 11

Place the faucet connector onto the faucet nipple. Trim the tube to length and connect to the blue collet on the side of the RO module. Install the red drain tube to the drain on the faucet. Connect this tube to the drain saddle using a compression fitting as before.

    • 12

Install the ball valve onto the storage tank nipple. Install the white tubing into the ball valve with a compression fitting. Connect this tube to the white collet on the module.
