Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height from the curtain rod to the windowsill. Add 4 inches to the height so you can create the seam for the curtain rod. If the rod rests above the window frame, measure from the rod to approximately 1 inch above the floor.

    • 2

Measure the width of the curtain rod. If you plan to have a single curtain, you will use this measurement. If you plan to have two curtains on one rod, divide this number in half.

    • 3

Place the shower curtain on a table and stretch it out. Measure over from the side edge of the curtain and draw a line to mark the width with chalk.

    • 4

Measure up from the bottom and then draw a line across the fabric at the correct height.

    • 5

Cut out the section of fabric, using a pair of sharp scissors. Work to keep the lines as straight as possible.

    • 6

Repeat the process on the other side edge of the shower curtain if you plan to have two curtains.

    • 7

Fold the top edge of the fabric down approximately 2 inches, and then secure the fabric with straight pins.

    • 8

Stitch the bottom edge of the fold with a needle and thread. Use a slip stitch if you don't want the seam to show on the outside of the fabric, or stitch approximately 1/4 inch from the fold using a straight stitch with a sewing machine. Make sure you tack down the stitching at both ends.

    • 9

Lay the curtain(s) out on an ironing board, and then press the seam(s) flat.

    • 10

Slide the curtain rod through the fold and then install the rod in the window. The ruffles will be at the bottom of the curtain.
