Instructions

Walls, Doors and Windows

1. Slice wine corks into 1/8-inch thick circles and paint them different colors. Hot glue them inside small, wood-backed frames and hang them as a collage on a bare wall to give the room a casual vibe.

2. 

   Use a red canvas as your backdrop.

   Paint a 24-inch by 36-inch canvas red. Drip black and white paint over it, adding a few brush strokes. Frame the painting and hang the modern piece in your game room.

3. Staple batting to a 36-inch long by 18-inch wide piece of plywood. Cover half of the covered plywood in a striped fabric and the other end in a bold floral pattern. Hide the seam by stapling willow branches or artificial flowers along the center of the piece, wrapping them with a raffia bow. Hang the piece above a sofa or on your mantel for a vibrant, elegant touch.

4. Cut or tear scraps of fabric into 2-inch wide by 6-inch long strips. Tie the strips around an embroidery hoop or Styrofoam circle and hang the wreath on your door for a country decor feel. Make several smaller wreaths to hang in a series of windows.

5. 

   Display your old charms in bedroom windows.

   Turn old brooches and charms into art for your windows. Clasp the jewels on simple 18-inch chains. Dangle them in the center of your bedroom windows to add a rich and ornate feel to the room.

Table and Mantel Decor

1. 

   Turn your hobby into art.

   Fill clear glass cylinders of different heights with balls of yarn. Use a single color in each vase or mix the yarn hues for variety. Display the grouping on an end table next to your reading or sewing chair for a homey feel to the room.

2. Fashion candle holders from objects found in your yard. Hot glue small pine cones around the edge of a 6-inch round circle. Glue berries and twigs between the pine cones to fill the gaps. Place a pillar candle in the center and display one on each end of your fireplace mantel to bring a little bit of nature into the room.

3. Fill a tall square vase half full of blue sea glass. Insert faux crystal encrusted willow branches. Place this soothing piece on your dining room table or on the center of your mantel for a simple, understated bit of elegance.

4. Glue cork or felt to the backs of 4-inch by 4-inch ceramic tiles. Cover the tiles with a thin layer of shellac after decoupaging vintage wall paper or comic strips onto the front of each. Scatter these drink coasters around the house to protect coffee tables and end tables from moisture rings.

5. Prevent dust from gathering on your favorite stemware by grouping them in threes and filling them with sea glass, marbles or costume jewelry to jazz up dressers, shelves and bare table space.
