Step by Step Origami Daffodils

Yellow paper will make the origami daffodil more realistic.

When daffodils bloom, it is a sign that spring is here. While it isn't too difficult, the bright, yellow spring flower requires several folds to make the flower petals. It is easiest to fold a larger piece of paper many times than to try it with a smaller paper, especially if it is your first time making the flower. Make a bouquet of origami daffodils and give them as a gift on May Day.

Things You'll Need

• 1 - 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches piece of average-weight computer or copy paper
• Ruler
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of 8 1/2-inches by 11-inches medium-weight copy or computer paper into an 8 1/2-inch by 8 1/2-inch square.

2. Fold the square of paper in half by bringing the bottom left corner up to meet the top right corner. Bring the bottom, right corner up to meet the top, left corner.

3. Turn the paper slightly so the corner is pointing toward you. This should be the corner that has four open layers of paper. The closed fold is on the left and the open end is on the right.

4. Bring the left corner up to meet the top and press the crease well. Bring the right corner up to meet the top and crease well.

5. Repeat Step 3 and crease well. Unfold all the folds. Turn the paper over and repeat Steps 2 and 3.

6. Form a rabbit ear fold by bringing the two sides in toward the middle on one layer of paper. Repeat for the other three folds.

7. Push down the rabbit ear folds so they are flat, laying down on the table, while the middle is sticking up in the air. The middle part is the stamens of the daffodil, while the four folds laying down are the petals.

8. Push the point of the stamens into the stamens.

Tips & Warnings

• Always crease all the folds well in origami.
