How to Get a Yellow Magikarp in "Pokemon: Pearl"
"Pokemon: Pearl" for Nintendo DS has hundreds of Pokemon for you to battle with and catch. Some of these Pokemon have special colorings and are shiny, such as the yellow Magikarp -- a water-type Pokemon that usually has a red body, but has a shiny variant where yellow replaces the red. You can catch a shiny Magikarp early in the game before collecting your first badge. However, to catch any Pokemon in the water, you must first collect a fishing rod such as the Old Rod.

Travel to Jubilife City, north of Route 202. Speak with Dawn and cycle through the conversation, after which you are free to roam the city.

Walk to the water on the left side of the town and use the Old Rod to go fishing. Finding a yellow Magikarp is a matter of patience, as the majority of the Pokemon you find in the water will primarily be red Magikarp. Continue fishing until you pull out a yellow Magikarp surrounded by stars and accompanied by a sound effect.

4
Attack the Magikarp with your Pokemon's special attacks but do not defeat it. Throw a Poke Ball at the Magikarp when it's health is low to capture it and store it's information in your Pokedex.

Tips & Warnings
If you catch a shiny Magikarp and don't want it to evolve, keep it below level 20 or else it will change into a shiny, red Gyrados.
