How to Inactivate AOL
You must close your America Online account to inactivate the screen names associated with your account. When you inactivate and close your AOL account, you no longer receive email on the AOL account, and you can no longer use the AOL system. For this reason, you want to inactivate your account only when you no longer need the AOL email system. Your account stays active until the next billing period, so inactivating the account also stops any recurring charges.

Click the Windows orb and click "All Programs." Click the "America Online" program group, and then click the "America Online" program shortcut. After the software opens, log in with your master screen name.

Click the "Service Options" menu item and click "Manage My Subscriptions." Click the "Cancel" button in the bottom right corner.

Click "Cancel" again in the confirmation page. Click a reason why you want to cancel the AOL account, and click the orange "Cancel AOL" button to complete the process.
