DIY Velvet Pillows
When you are decorating your home, buying decorative accessories from a department store can be too costly for your budget. One solution is to make your own accessories using craft materials. For example, construct soft velvet throw pillows at a fraction of the cost by making them from inexpensive velvet fabric. Things You'll Need
- Velvet fabric, 1 yard
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Straight pins
- Nylon thread
- Needle
- Cotton batting

Cut out a rectangle from velvet fabric using scissors to measure 12-inches wide, 24-inches long.

Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise with the right sides together. Line up the edges.

Pin around the entire edge using straight pins, leaving a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

Sew around the pinned edge using nylon thread and a needle. Leave 3 inches unsewn. Remove the straight pins.

Turn the pillow form right side out through the unsewn hole. Stuff the velvet pillow using cotton batting. Fill the pillow as full or as flat as you prefer.

Turn down the edges of the opening by 1/2-inch, then pin the edge with straight pins.

Sew along the pinned edge, then remove the straight pins. Trim off any excess nylon thread before displaying your handmade velvet pillow.
