How to Give Images a Cloth Texture
While images that are glossy add a certain visual appeal to a picture, combining an image with a cloth texture affords it visual elements that speak to the viewer in a different way. There are a variety of image software packages that allow you to apply texture effects to your photos. However, no matter what program you are adept at using, it is important to know the basic imaging techniques and sequence of tasks necessary to give your images a cloth texture.

1
Pick an image to add cloth texture to that showcases the photo subject well and is free of flaws in focus or image quality.
-
2
Select a cloth texture that you enjoy and determine whether the texture will blend well with the image you are using. Examine the orientation of the threads in the texture and compare them to the lines in your image. For example, if the texture threads are horizontal, determine whether that enhances or detracts from the horizontal images in your photo.

3
Open both images in your image editing software and alter their dimensions so that they are the same size. Next, drag the cloth texture over the primary image. If the images are the same size, the original image is hidden behind the texture image.
-
4
Alter the opacity on the texture image. This changes how visible the texture image is on top of the primary image. Lower opacity settings make the texture less visible. If the opacity is set to zero, the image is invisible. Higher settings make it more visible. Set the opacity so that the primary image beneath it is visible and has the cloth-like texture appearance that you prefer.

5
Add a blend effect to the image. Turn on a variety of blend options such as hard lighting and soft lighting to determine which is preferable for your image composition. Reverse effects of any blend before trying another one.
-
6
Save the images and edits as a new image. This keeps your original images on your hard drive for later use.
