Instructions

    • 1

Cover carpets with a mixture of 1 cup borax and 2 cups cornmeal. Leave the powder on the carpet for several hours to remove odors trapped in carpet fibers. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the powder from the carpet.

    • 2

Pour 2 cups of water into a spray bottle. Add 15 drops of your favorite essential oil to the water, and gently shake the bottle to mix. Spray the mixture around the room to remove odors from the air and replace them with a pleasant scent.

    • 3

Mist upholstery and drapes with white vinegar, and let it air-dry on the fabric. The unpleasant vinegar odor will dissipate as it dries and take the other bad smells with it.

Bring a pot of water and either lemon wedges or cloves to a boil. Turn the heat on the stove to low, and let the water simmer. The mixture will remove odors from the air and replace it with a fresh, pleasant scent. Be sure to remove the pot from the heat before all the water simmers away.
