How to Add Clickable Links in a WordPress Post

How to Add Clickable Links in a WordPress Post thumbnail
Give your WordPress visitors clickable links, and they may follow them.

A Web page without links is like a radio without buttons; if you have nothing to click or press, you have no options, and no place to go. WordPress, a free blogging site, allows bloggers to add formatted text and links to their blog posts. Links that you see on Web pages consist of HTML code. If you are not a Web developer, you have no need to understand how this code works. WordPress's design box hides the complexity of HTML code and enables anyone to convert blog text into clickable links.

Navigate to WordPress.com and log on to your account. Click the "Dashboard" link in the My Blogs tab to view your Dashboard page.

    • 2

Click the "Pages" icon on the left side of the page. The Pages Web page opens and displays the page sections contained in your blog. These sections include "About," and "Title."

    • 3

Click the "About" button, and then click the "Edit" link beneath the "About" button. The Edit Page Web page opens and displays the editor containing the contents that make up the blog's "About" page. Text and images may appear in the editing box depending on what you have placed there.

Click that checkbox to place a checkmark there if you want a new window or tab to open when users click your link. Click "Add Link." The dialog pop-up closes and returns you to the editing window. An anchor tag containing your link appears in the box. It will look similar to the anchor tag shown below:

Tips & Warnings

  • Add as many links as you like to your WordPress posts using the method described. To remove a link, highlight it, and then click the "Unlink" button at the top of the editing box.

  • Update an existing link by highlighting the link in the edit box and clicking the "Insert/Edit Link" button. Change the values in the "URL" and "Title" text boxes, and click "Update Link."

  • You can also link to another page in your blog instead of linking to an external site. To do this, click "Link to Existing Content" while in the "Insert/Edit Link" window. The "Search" textbox appears. Type a word or phrase that appears on one of your blog pages. WordPress returns a list of pages that contain your search word. Click one of those pages, and then click "Add Link."
