Use tulle to add a touch of elegance to church functions.

Whether you're celebrating your wedding day, arranging a funeral or preparing for a church anniversary party, it's a common practice to decorate the entrance to the church. Tulle -- a lightweight net fabric typically made from nylon, silk or rayon -- is the perfect medium with which to work when you want to accentuate the entryway to the sanctuary. Tulle is inexpensive, offers great flexibility and can be hung and removed easily. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Peel the backing from the self-adhesive hooks and stick them above each corner of the entry doors. Ensure that you use hooks that are easily removable so you don't leave glue on the entrance to the church sanctuary or inadvertently peel away paint when removing the hooks.

    • 2

Place additional hooks, evenly spaced, across the top of the entry doors. This allows you to create a more elaborate design with the tulle by draping it in several downward arcs. Place one or two hooks on either side of the door as well to secure the tulle on a windy day.

    • 3

Measure the doorway down both sides and across the top. Add all three measurements together to arrive at a total.

    • 4

Cut a length of tulle 1 1/2 times the length of your measurement. This will allow enough extra tulle to drape across the top of the doorway.

    • 5

Use a stepladder to reach the hooks above the door and secure your tulle in them. Fold the length of tulle in half and start with the hook in the top middle of the doorway. Secure the tulle in the hook. Drape the tulle evenly and secure it behind each successive hook, working your way out from the center until you've covered the entire door frame.

    • 6

Create one or more bows out of tulle and affix them to the entryway with double-sided tape. Stick the tape to the tulle that's already hung to avoid leaving adhesive on the walls or doorway of the church.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose tulle in the appropriate color for your event. Choose white for a wedding, black for a funeral and colors to match your decorating theme for other events.
