Impress your friends with bow tie bills.

Folding paper, also known as origami, is a creative way to make decorative objects. Create traditional origami using specially designed, colorful paper, or try origami made from unusual paper, such as dollar bills. Fold paper bills into neckties to create gifts for friends or as an interesting way to tip your server. The bow tie is the most commonly folded necktie.

Instructions

    • 1

Smooth the bill on a flat surface. Use the corner of a table to smooth out any creases.

    • 2

Fold the bill lengthwise so the edge is folded in the middle of the bill. Fold the other side over to meet it. Crease both sides.

    • 3

Fold it in half so one short end meets the other and the two previous folds are in the center.

    • 4

Push the folded corners into the bill so they make triangles. Do this on both sides. It will resemble an arrow.

    • 5

Hold the point of the arrow in one hand, with your thumb completely covering the top triangle. Unfold one side of the bottom part of the arrow without unfolding the part that your thumb is covering. Press the part you opened up onto the triangle so you make a new crease. Fold the other bottom part up in the other direction so the arrow is inside-out while keeping the top, pointed triangle shape on the inside.

    • 6

Bend over the corners on the folded part of the triangle so they meet in the center. Do this on each side so you make four folds. This creates a new arrow shape.

    • 7

Hold onto the newly formed four little triangles while pulling each flap open until the bill lays flat. Smooth it out, and open up the corners to get the bow tie shape.
