Damask is a type of fabric weave that results in a relatively specific pattern often used in bedding and wallpaper design. When properly implemented, damask can be extremely elegant and attractive. But decorating a bedroom around a damask theme can also be difficult; as damask itself is rather attention-grabbing. Decide how and where to incorporate damask into your bedroom. Adding too much damask to a room can lead to clashing; which is why it is usually advised to start with small amounts of damask and adding more as necessary. There are many ways to go about this, the most obvious being bedding. Aside from bedding, implement damask in the form of wallpaper, lampshades and curtains, among many other items. The more focus you place on where and how to properly implement damask, the better the results will look.

Use complementary colors. Designing around damask is all about doing what is necessary to make the damask "pop," which often means utilizing colors that sit in the background while the damask does its work. For example, those who plan to utilize a damask bedspread should keep wall colors as neutral as possible, as other colors could easily clash with the bedspread. Before choosing a color to add to your bedroom, ensure that it fits well next to your damask highlights.

Implement proper lighting. Lighting has dramatic impacts on how damask looks when used correctly, and improper lighting can actually take away from its appearance. Plan to implement soft lighting whenever possible, avoiding light fixtures and bulbs that spray harsh lighting throughout the room.
