You can reduce the size of a .MOV video on your Mac.

If you have a video on your Mac that's saved in the MOV format but you find it is too big for your purposes, you can make a smaller version of the MOV. For example, you have a video that you want to send someone, but you don't want to spend a long time transmitting a large file, or you want to make a smaller MOV so it won't take up a lot of room on your iPhone. Apple installs the free QuickTime application on every Mac, which you can use to play MOV files as well as export them as smaller versions.

Step 1

Click "QuickTime" on the Dock of your Mac to launch the application.

Click "File" from the QuickTime menu, then click "Open File." A dialog box appears.

Click the folder on your Mac containing the .MOV file that you want to make smaller. Click the file to select it, then click "Open."

Step 4

Click "File," then click "Save for Web."

Step 5

Type a name for the smaller .MOV file in the "Save As" text box.

Step 6

Click the "iPhone (Cellular)" text box under "Export Versions for."

Step 7

Click "Save." QuickTime generates a smaller version of the .MOV file in the folder you designated.
