How to Make a Hidden Emoticon in Gmail
Gmail offers free Web-based email service along with an instant messenger service that you can use to chat with any other Gmail user currently online. When using Gmail Chat, you can insert emoticons (graphical smiley faces) into your messages to personalize them. At first glance it appears that Gmail only has a very limited number of emoticons that you can use, but Gmail supports several hidden emoticons that are not available from the clickable emoticon menu in Gmail Chat. You can create these hidden emoticons by entering the necessary symbols to create the emoticon.
