Vacuflo Installation
Vacuflo is a brand of central vacuuming unit. Central vacuums have become a standard feature for many new homes. Even existing homeowners have these units installed because of the convenience of having a tool that minimizes noise, dust and the annoyance associated with traditional vacuum cleaners. 1
Find a location for the primary power unit away from heat-producing equipment and appliances, such as dryers, boilers, incinerators or hot water tanks. Make sure the unit has access to an electrical outlet. Install the power unit in a place easily assessable for emptying the canister and servicing the unit.
-
2
Position the inlets to service three or more rooms for each valve. Inlet valves serve as the connection apparatus for central vacuum hoses. Mount inlet valves in convenient spots, including walls, floors, hallways or staircases. Measure the distance from proposed inlet connection points using a standard 30-foot hose, string or measuring tape to the service areas. Ensure the hoses reach the far corners and furnishings in the designated spaces. Install the valves in locations that have the necessary space to install the branch lines to the main trunk line.

-
3
Install the inlets within 60 inches of electrical receptacles. This ensures the necessary power to operate the unit's accessories. Cut the openings for inlet valves 2 1/4 inches wide by 3 3/4 inches high. Install inlets in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines.
-
4
Place the power unit in the selected location. Run the main trunk line along a path free of obstacles. The trunk line consists of the main pipe line leading from the power unit. Connect the branch lines leading from inlet valves to the trunk line. Mount the pipes between floor joists, underneath crawl space and long wall studs. Install branch lines in walls, closets along ductwork and other components.
-
5
Select the proper size PVC pipes for the main and branch lines according to the manufacturer's recommendations for your unit. Begin the installation of the trunk line at the inlet valve the furthest distance away from the power unit. Measure the lengths for pipe sections from the "pipe stop" in the inside of the pipe fittings.
-
6
Cut PVC piping material with a hacksaw. Use a miter box to help make straight, even cuts of the pipes. Remove burrs, dirt and grime from the pipe ends. Perform a "dry fit" to ensure the components of the system fit properly.
-
7
Join pipe sections and fittings. Wipe the fitting and end of pipes with a clean cloth. Apply PVC cement on the ends of pipes and insert into the fitting. Turn the pipe about 1/4 turn to bond the materials.
-
8
Connect the circuit to each inlet valve. The circuit automatically turns the power unit on when the user inserts a hose in the inlet. Install low-voltage wire from the inlets and run the wire along the PVC pipes back to the power unit. Shut off the circuit breaker leading to the power unit at the main distribution panel or fuse box before installing low-voltage electrical wires. Followthe wiring diagram in the Vacuflo installation manual for guidance on making the proper connections for the wiring.
