How to Make a Hair Mesh
3D models have become a common tool in animation. While these models have reduced the artistic side of animation, they have increased the level of technology and efficiency. Before the models can be used, meshes must be created by a 3D modeler. This includes hair meshes, which can be created by following a few basic principles.
Instructions

1
Open your 3D modeling application. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." Browse to and open the model for which you want to make the hair mesh.
-
2
Change to "Polygon" selection mode. Select the polygons making up the scalp of the figure. Copy and paste this selection into the same document.

3
Use the mesh sculpting tools in the program to lift a section at the back of the hair model out and down to form a lock of hair. Repeat this step many times to create locks of hair all over the hair model. The goal here is to reproduce the folds in hair, not every hair. The details will be added after the mesh is created using a texture map.

4
Delete the figure, leaving the hair mesh. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Save." In the dialog, save the hair mesh under a new file name.
