How to Do Animations on Canvas

Animation can be created with the use of a vast range of media. Indeed, the only real limitation is your imagination. Artwork created on canvas, for example, can easily and effectively be adapted to form a piece of animation. This is commonly used to reveal the process and development of a piece of art.

      Place the canvas that will be used on a table or flat surface. Ensure the canvas is well lit with directional artificial light. Sunlight can cause glare when filming.

      Place a video camera above the canvas using a tripod or similar stand. Ensure that its position does not inhibit drawing on the canvas. Ensure the view of the camera is not blocked by your position when drawing. Also ensure no shadows are cast on the canvas whilst drawing.

      Draw desired patterns or pictures to be animated onto the canvas. At certain points in the drawing process, take a picture of the progress. This could be done at regular time intervals.

      Transfer all of the photographs taken onto a computer once the drawing has been completed.

      Open Windows Movie Maker.

      Press "Ctrl" and "A" to select all photographs, then press "Ctrl" and "C" to copy the files. Click "File," then "Paste" to move the photographs into the program.

      Add all photographs into the timeline in the correct order. This can be done by clicking and dragging the individuals files. An animation of the creation of a piece of canvas artwork will have been completed. Files can be manipulated to create different effects within the animation.

      Save the animation by clicking "File," then "Save Movie File."
