Position the ladder against the house or other area where you will be working so it is at the proper angle. Stand up straight in front of the ladder after it is set up and put your toes up against the bottom ladder rung. Reach out your hands; if the tips of your fingers touch the rungs, it is at the proper angle.

Dig small holes where the feet of the ground extension ladder will go. Shovel out 6 inches for each foot and set the feet in the holes. This will help secure it in the ground.

Screw in two 3/8-inch by 2-inch eye screws, one on each side, through the fascia board along the top of the house. Wrap a small piece of rope around the ladder and tie it into the eye screw on each side.
