How to Make a Tension Wrench With a Paperclip
Small padlocks can often be picked without a professional locksmith's assistance. This is especially important if you have locked valuables away in a locker or other secure location and have now misplaced the key. The only tool needed is a simple tension wrench to press against the tumblers in the lock. With just a large paperclip and a pair of needle-nose pliers, you can pick many padlocks. Be aware that picking the lock on any storage area that does not belong to you can bring criminal charges.

1
Hold the paperclip in your hand vertically, with the end pointing up. Pull down on the available leg, moving it into a horizontal position.
-
2
Grip the paperclip 1/8 inch from the end with needle-nose pliers. Bend this tip down until it is pointing toward the floor.
-
-
3
Move the pliers back along the paper clip 1/4 inch, and push back on the clip. This will bend the paperclip 90 degrees to the rear.
-
4
Hold the lock so that the smallest part of the key hole is facing up. Slip the tension wrench into the bottom of the key hole.
-
5
Twist the paperclip, and press into the tumblers in the lock. The paperclip should turn the lock.
