How to Make a Frat Toga out of a Sheet

How to Make a Frat Toga out of a Sheet thumbnail
Togas were worn by ancient Roman citizens.

Bringing together hundreds of students looking for a good time, frat parties are major social events on many college campuses. The toga party, in particular, has been a signature frat party theme for decades, bolstered by the simplicity of the idea. For frat houses, toga parties are relatively inexpensive to throw and for attendees, togas are easy to make. In fact, you probably have everything you need to make a frat party toga out of a sheet in your house right now.

Instructions

    • 1

Machine wash and dry the sheet. You don't want to wear a dirty sheet to a party. Use a double, queen- or king-sized sheet; leave the twin-sized sheets for the kids. Iron the sheet.

    • 2

Put on your underwear as well as a pair of shorts or, for women, a slip. A toga is an unstitched garment and even though you will secure it with safety pins for the party, you still run the risk of it slipping, unraveling or coming undone. Do not forgo underwear and shorts unless you accept the risk of leaving the party naked.

    • 3

Put on a strapless bra, if you are a woman. A strapless bra is favored over a regular one as having your bra straps showing from under a toga is not attractive. If you plan on taking the toga off at some point or want extra coverage of your chest, put on a T-shirt as well.

    • 4

Take the short end of your sheet and wrap it twice around your waist. Secure it in place with safety pins.

    • 5

Take the remaining fabric, throw it over your chest and drape it onto one shoulder.

    • 6

Pull the fabric taut. If you leave it loose, it will slide on and off your shoulder. One arm will be left free to move and the other will be draped and covered by the toga. You can carry the excess fabric in the crook of your arm.

    • 7

Pin the ends of the sheet -- now at your back -- to the waist part of the toga.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can spare a few dollars and a trip to the fabric store, try making your toga out of four to six yards of fabric instead. It will yield a better result than a sheet toga.

  • Accessorize your toga with a pair of sandals and a crown of fake leaves for your head.
