How to Fix a Shark Steam Mop That Won't Release Steam

If your Shark steam mop stops working, stop using the machine and troubleshoot the issue to determine the problem and fix it. Machines that don't produce steam have an empty tank or are clogged with mineral residue. The Shark steam mop has a small tank that, depending on the size of the area you're cleaning, is likely to run out of water several times while cleaning. Mineral residue occurs if you put hard water in the machine. Avoid this by always using distilled water. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the machine and unplug it.

    • 2

Turn the cap on the tank counterclockwise to remove it.

    • 3

Fill the filling flask with distilled water and pour it into the tank. Repeat until the tank is fill of water. The filling flask is included in the steam mop kit. If you've lost it, use a liquid measuring cup.

    • 4

Turn the cap back on the tank clockwise to tighten it.

    • 5

Plug the machine in and turn it on. If the machine doesn't produce steam immediately, continue depressing the steam button to push the distilled water through the mop. This will help remove any calcium residue that is clogging the machine, but it may not always work to remove all of the residue. If this is the case, contact the manufacturer for professional repair.
