Use a baseball bat to make a home run curtain rod.

If you're a total baseball fanatic and happen to have a few old bats hanging around your house, you can turn any room with a window into the ultimate sports sanctuary. Repurpose the equipment into a sporty, stylish curtain rod to display your fandom. Provided you already own the bat or bats necessary to create the foundation for the curtain rod, this project is fairly inexpensive and simple to complete. Just remember, no playing ball in the house or you won't have a window to decorate in the first place.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Baseball bat
  • Pencil
  • Power drill
  • 1/2-inch drill bit
  • 2 curtain rod mounts
  • Tie-top curtains
  • Level

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the span of the window you want to cover and the length of the bat you plan to use to ensure it will be long enough to make a functional curtain rod.

    • 2

Hold one curtain rod mount above one side of the window to ensure placement will be high enough for the curtains to cover the window entirely. Draw dots with a pencil to indicate the places you'll need to drill when you take the mount away, and then predrill a hole in each mark that is just deep enough to be able to easily drive in your screws later.

    • 3

Replace the curtain rod mount over the predrilled holes and drive the bottom screws in, followed by the top screws. Check that the screws are tightly inserted; if not, you will need to remove the mount, insert a set of wall anchors to help secure the mount, and then replace the mount.

    • 4

Attach your tie-top curtains to the baseball bat by tying each loop securely, and then lay one end of the the bat on the mount above the window. Raise the other end of the bat until the curtains are straight; check your accuracy with a level, and then hold up the other mount, marking off the screw holes with your pencil. Remove the bat and the loose wall mount to predrill holes, and then replace the mount to secure them in place with the screws.

    • 5

Drop the bat and curtains into the curtain mounts.

Tips & Warnings

  • You don't need to add finials, but if you'd like to include an extra touch of baseball fandom in your curtain rod design, halve a baseball, using one half to cover either side of the ends of the bat. Secure the finials in place with hot glue.
