How to Braid a Snake Whip

Whips have been used in the past to control both people and livestock, and popularized by action heroes such as "Indiana Jones." The difference between a bull whip and a snake whip, both of which are braided designs, is that the snake whip does not have a handle section. You can make your own snake whip by braiding nylon rope together. When you use it, you must make sure the area is clear of any life or items that you could damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a nylon rope into sections measuring 6 feet, 9 feet, 7 feet, 5 feet and 3 feet. The 6-foot section is intended to be the core of the whip.

    • 2

Fold the 9-foot section in half. Place the fold under the core section 18 inches from the end.

    • 3

Fold the left-hand end from the 9-foot rope over the core rope. Fold the right-hand end over the left-hand end of the rope. Fold the core end over the right-hand end of the rope. Continue to braid the ropes for 1 foot.

    • 4

Fold the 7-foot piece of rope in half. Lay it between the two outer ropes of the braid. Recommence braiding the rope with two of the strands having two ropes in them rather than one.

    • 5

Braid the rope for one more foot and add the 5-foot section of rope in the same way as the 7-foot to the two outer strands. Braid the ropes for one more foot and add the 3-foot section in the same way. Continue to braid until you have run out of rope.

    • 6

Bind the end of the rope with electrical tape. Cut off any loose ends with a knife.
