How to Attach Toggles on Necklaces
Jewelers use a variety of necklace clasps and closures. Ring and lobster-claw clasps are cheap and hold well. Barrel clasps may be easier to manage for some necklace wearers who may not have the dexterity needed to operate a lobster-claw clasp. Toggle clasps have a closed ring on one end and a T-shaped bar on the other. The wearer slips the bar into the circle on an angle, then straightens it out. The bar can't fit through the circle when it is straight. Toggle clasps are less secure than other types, but they add a visual element to the necklace's overall design.

1
Slide one of your necklace's tails through a crimping bead and the circle end of the toggle clasp. Loop the wire's end back through the crimping bead so the clasp sits secured on a loop of wire at the end of your necklace.
-
2
Hold the wire tail in one hand. Place the crimping bead in a pair of crimping pliers, and press down to flatten the bead. Turn the bead 45 degrees, and press down again, forming a small ball.

3
Place the crimping bead in an open crimp cover. Place the cover in the crimping pliers. Gently press down to close, but not flatten, the cover.

4
Thread the other end of the necklace wire through a crimping bead and the circular attachment on the toggle bar. Place the circular attachment in the crimping pliers, and press down to close the circle if it's not already closed.
-
5
Thread the wire back through the crimping bead, forming a loop. Place the crimping bead in crimping pliers, and flatten it, then turn it 45-degrees and flatten it again into a circular shape.
-
6
Place the crimping bead in a crimp cover, and close it with the crimping pliers.
