How to Apply Tags to Bags in a Manufacturing Process

Add your tags to a discreet spot on the bags where they'll be hidden, but not invisible.

If you design and sell your own bags, you are probably interested in adding a distinct feature to leave your watermark. Making your own tags to sew into the lining of your bags is an easy way to label your items, and can be made from scrap pieces of fabric. Embroider the pieces with your company name and logo, or design a label on the computer and print it on iron-on paper to cut and iron on to tags.

Instructions

  1. Flat Tags

    • 1

Cut a 3-by-3 inch square of fabric for flat tags (such as the kind found on Jansport backpacks). Choose your means of writing on it; embroidery and iron-on words work well, and can be accompanied by a logo.

    • 2

Fold the edges of the fabric and press flat. Sew the tag in place on the bag along the folded edges.

    • 3

Cut strings off. These types of tags work well on both the inside or outside of bags.

    Loose Tags

    • 4

Cut a strip of fabric 1 inch wide and 3 inches long for loose tags, such as the ones found inside of bags, in shirts or on the back of stuffed animals. Label the tag, either by embroidering or iron-on words.

    • 5

Fold the fabric strip in half. When sewing the sides of the bag together, place the folded strip between two pieces of the bag material where a seam will be, so that it makes a "sandwich." Pin the tag in place.

    • 6

Sew the seam together, sewing the tag in place. Trim excess strings.
