How to Buy a Ski Helmet

Ski helmets used to be the butt of many jokes. Now they are hip, comfortable and could save you from serious injury.

• Ski Gloves
• Ski Goggles
• Ski Helmets
• Ski Poles
• Skis

1. Go to a ski store and look for a helmet model you like. Some helmets cover the ears and others have ear flaps, and they come in a variety of hues from gray to neon yellow.
2. Ask a clerk to help measure your head. If you already know your hat size, skip this and the next two steps.
3. Wrap a measuring tape around your head directly above your ears and forehead.
4. Take the reading - this is your helmet and hat size.
5. Try on the correct size helmet.
6. Place the helmet on your head directly above your eyebrows.
7. Make sure the helmet pads are snug against your head, with no large gaps.
8. Fasten the chin strap and try to roll the helmet off your head. If the skin on your forehead moves, you have a snug and correct fit.
