1
Cut the paper that will form the lantern. A long strip roughly 24 inches wide is a good starting point. Make the lantern as tall as you'd like by cutting it as high as you want. Or make different-sized lanterns and plan on grouping them together for a neat centerpiece.

2
Cut a design into the paper with a sharp craft knife. Or just cut slits into the sides of the lantern so the light will glow through. Make simple swirls with the knife to remove a small amount of paper, or cut out small flowers to decorate the lantern.

3
Decide if you want your paper lanterns to be circular or rectangular, or do a few of both. For circular lanterns, roll the paper up into a circle and use double-sided tape to secure it. For rectangular lanterns, use a ruler to make even, small creases on all of the edges, place the edges together to interlock, and use tape to secure them.

4
Embellish the lanterns by sticking adhesive crystals on them for some added sparkle. Place the lanterns over small candles or LED lights and decorate the table as desired.
