How to Install a Bollard Sleeve Steel
Originally used as a post to tie up boats, a bollard is a short vertical post that has in the last decade been used as a steel or concrete post that obstructs the passage of cars and potential car bombers in urban areas. Lighting contractors also use the word to mean a short lamp post. Found bolted to or embedded in concrete, steel bollards are usually powder-coated or painted. And because they are obstacles, distracted drivers sometimes run into them, especially in parking lots. Consequently, plastic and other sleeves are often fitted over bollards as protection.

1
Purchase a bollard sleeve that fits your bollard. Bollards come in standard sizes and so do sleeves. The sleeve will be slightly larger than the bollard.
-
2
Slide the sleeve over the bollard to ensure it fits. The sleeve should go on and off easily.
-
-
3
Measure the circumference of the bollard 3 inches below the top of the post with a cloth measuring tape. Cut a piece of neoprene adhesive tape, included with some bollard sleeves, with scissors to a length that is 1 inch less than the circumference of the bollard.
-
4
Attach the tape around the bollard about 3 inches from the top. Cut a second piece of tape that is the same length as the circumference of the bollard and attach that to the bottom of the bollard about 2 inches above the ground.
-
5
Slide the sleeve over the bollard with a twisting motion. You should hear air being forced out of the sleeve.
-
6
Attempt to remove the sleeve from the bollard. If you can, add additional tape to the top and bottom of the bollard to narrow the gap between the bollard and sleeve. Reinstall the sleeve.
