How to Make Your Own Clan Badge

A clan crest badge is a badge commonly worn by those of Scottish heritage. Today, crest badges are worn as a decoration to show one's pride in their family and to allow others to identify them with a certain lineage. Although many badges are made of pewter, you can create your own simple badge using a button maker and a digital image of your family crest. Pin the badge to a backpack or other clothing item to show your family loyalty.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a digital image of your family's crest. Many clan crests can be found on the Internet. If you don't have a digital copy of your family's crest, scan one into your computer or use a graphic design program such as Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro to create your own image.

    • 2

Print the image on a sheet of paper. Make sure your image prints the same size as your button shells. If you are making more than one badge, print out multiple images per page.

    • 3

Use a graphic punch, adjustable rotary cutter or scissors to cut the crest out in a circular shape.

    • 4

Pull the handle on your button press to the upright position and insert the button shell with the dome side facing upwards. Place the family crest circle on top of the dome, facing upwards.

    • 5

Place the round sheet of plastic film on top of the family crest, rotate the die table to the left, and pull the handle down.

    • 6

Pull the handle back up then insert the back of the pin with the clasp side facing downwards. Turn the die table back to the right, pull the handle down again and rotate the table to see your finished crest badge.
