How to Make Cryptic Messages for Kids
A cryptic message is one written in code using numbers, symbols or poetry. Kids like scavenger hunts and seeking games and, luckily for adults, they are just as fun to make as they are to play. The cryptic messages you write can use words, colors, pictures or numbers. Games can be tailored to suit almost any setting, including classrooms or backyards, and can be for learning or just for fun.

Plan the rules of your specific game and the materials you need. Hide the items on your scavenger hunt or treasure hunt during this stage.This way, you can integrate this information into your cryptic message more accurately.

Math problems or cyptic messages? Decide how many clues you need and in what order they go. Number them if that helps you, as this is crucial. Decide on the format of the clues, and whether they have cryptic messages using numbers, letters or pictures, or varieties and different combinations of all formats.

Use universal and obvious symbols whenever possible. Avoid too much ambiguity in cryptic messages, especially when composing them for children. Utilize puns and word scrambles as opposed to obscure references.

Decorate your clue cards according to the theme of your game, or use materials related to the theme. A cryptic message can be the image or picture itself.
