Tweak LinkedIn settings to control access to your information.

Once you've created a network of contacts and professional profile on LinkedIn, you may want to control the information that you share publicly and with other LinkedIn users. LinkedIn allows members to configure privacy and visibility settings for information on the site, including the user profile photo, activity news feed and access to LinkedIn connections. Change your LinkedIn privacy preferences from the site's Settings page.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to LinkedIn. Move the mouse cursor over your username in the top right corner of the page. Select "Settings" from the menu.

    • 2

Click the "Profile" tab in the left navigation menu. This displays the Privacy Controls pane containing your LinkedIn privacy preference options.

    • 3

Click the "Turn On/Off Your Activity Broadcasts" link. Click and deselect the checkbox in the pop-up window to remove your activity updates from the LinkedIn news feed that appears on your contacts' homepages. Click the "Save Changes" button.

    • 4

Click the "Select Who Can See Your Activity Feed" link. Select your preferred option from the drop-down list in the pop-up window. You can grant access to everyone, to your network, to your connections or limit access only to yourself. Click the "Save Changes" button.

    • 5

Click the "Select What Others Can See When You've Viewed Their Profile" link. Click the button next to your preferred option in the pop-up window. Select complete anonymity or allow others to your full details, or just your job title and geographical location. Click the "Save Changes" button.

    • 6

Click the "Who Can See Your Connections" link. Select either "Your Connections" or "Only You" from the drop-down list in the pop-up window. Click the "Save Changes" button.

    • 7

Click the "Change Your Profile Photo and Visibility" link. Click the relevant button to select "My Connections," "My Network" or "Everyone." Click the "Save Settings" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • Selecting the "Anonymous" option in Step 5 disables profile statistics, so you won't be able to see which LinkedIn users have viewed your profile.
