Give your best pal a special friendship shirt on his or her birthday.

Best-friend necklaces have long been a way of showing love for a favorite friend, but there are many other ways of showing your friend you care, such as creating a customized best friends T-shirt. Making your own custom T-shirts has never been easier --- with the use of iron-on transfers, your imagination is the limit. Create two shirts so you and your "BFF" can wear them together.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a new document in a computer design program. If you want to create a custom image, use the tools in the program to create text, edit existing images of your friend or to create a new piece of digital art. If you are just using a picture, copy and paste the image into your new document, and save the picture.

    • 2

Flip the image horizontal using your design program. Because the image will be transferred upside down onto your shirt, you will need to make the image print horizontally. This will ensure any text reads right to left when it is placed on the shirt.

    • 3

Print a test sheet on a regular piece of printer paper. Before you print on your transfer paper, a test version makes sure the image is the correct size and orientation. After you print your test page, make any alterations to the document before moving on to the next step.

    • 4

Insert the transfer paper into your printer, following the paper manufacturer's instructions. Print the image onto the transfer paper.

    • 5

Trim the outside of the image so only a half-inch remains around the outside of the transfer. Place the image face-down onto the T-shirt, then use an iron to transfer the image to your shirt.

    • 6

Press down firmly on the iron, and run it over the image several times. Don't do this too long, or you will burn the paper. Peel up a small corner to see that the image has been transferred to the shirt --- remove the paper when you see the image has successfully been transferred.
