While telemark skiing, keep making adjustments to maintain proper body position.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ski Clothing
  • Telemark Ski Equipment
  1. Step 1

Think of having swivel hips while turning, where your legs move independently of your upper body.

  2. Step 2

Rotate your hips, knees and ankles to turn while maintaining an upper body position that faces down the hill at all times. Your skis will now be facing across the slope.

  3. Step 3

Lean your upper body down the mountain, forming an arc with your body. Your head and feet will be farther downhill than your hips.

  4. Step 4

Reach and plant your pole downhill, while your skis are turned across the hill, to help you lean forward and maintain an upper body that faces downhill.

  5. Step 5

Keep both hands in front of you in your field of vision. While pole planting, your hands can still be in your field of vision even if the bottoms of your poles are not.

  6. Step 6

Swivel your hips, turn your skis and start a new turn in the other direction.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're having trouble keeping your upper body facing downhill, pretend you have a flashlight on your belly that shines only on an object down the hill.
